Concept of Informative Tool
Informative tools are those applications or resources that contain information, knowledge, analysis or guidance to any discipline or method as to aid in problem-solving, self-learning, decision making, and research.
It has a wide range of formats text, graphics, sound, image and video, etc. In general it can be categorized into three types by their nature:
Text-Based Tools: These include textbooks, articles, manuals, guides, and written materials that present information in a textual format.
Graphic-Based Tools: Infographics, charts, diagrams, maps, and visual aids that use images and graphics to convey information effectively.
Multimedia Tools: Videos, animations, interactive simulations, podcasts, and other multimedia formats that combine various media elements to deliver information in an engaging way.
If they are categorized based on their functions:
1. Text 🖺 : Text can be of two types which are characters sequenced in human readable forms (letters, words, sentences, paragraphs, numbers, symbols.) and the words they form that can be
encoded into computer-readable formats such as ASCII, the other one is in alphanumeric form.
Why use it? Benefits of using it.
Text is the usual and most common method of how we communicate and that would allow us to quickly comprehend and respond, enhancing ones vocabulary and literacy skills, retention of information, and enhance their reading skills.
Text benefits the learners practically due to its inclusivity on diversity of learner for instance some will learn more from personal (expressive) texts, including letters, diaries, journals, and notes. Other's with free and imaginative minds will earn more from imaginative (narratives) texts, including stories, fairytales, poems, and play scripts. The rest may prefer informative (expository) texts, including reports, explanations, procedures, and persuasive writing.
2. Image 🖼️: Visual representation of information such as drawings, pictures, graphs, logos, photographs, etc.
Generally we can see the image format such as jpeg, bmp, png, gif, etc.
Why use it?
Visuals quickly transmit information to our brain. They trigger
our emotions.
They help us learn and remember.
In Cognitive psychology research shows us that images can strengthen communications in several different
ways they can capture attention, evoke emotions, and easily convey large amounts of information in a
relatively short amount of time.
3. Audio 🔊: Any digital information with speech or music stored on and played through a computer or other appliance is known as an
audio file or sound file, the most common and preferred audio file type is MP3.
Why use it?
This type of tool is beneficial for those auditory learners.
in general it enhances ones listening skills as only through critical listening can the information and data be understood and comprehended. It also plays important role in building vocabulary and correcting pronunciation.
4. Video 🎥 : Learning when done through the facilitation of video and is a multisensory learning as it includes animation, graphics, text, and audio. It is also known as video based learning.
Why use it?
Video based learning is a multisensory learning and caters to wide range of learners. It allows for improved retention of information due to interactive and engaging learning contents. It reduces the cognitive load as information presented through videos are in more digestible and comprehensible form. It has great flexibility and accessibility (on-demand learning).
5. Animation 😼: It is the illusion of movement that we see particularly due to continuous flashing of images, drawings and inanimate objects. Traditionally, animation has involved the filming of a series of cartoon
drawings or objects so that, when projected, the illusion of movement is
created. Now due to advancements in technology animations are made through CGI and other software such as Blender, SketchUp, Houdini, 3DS Max, and Maya.
Some of the best CGI characters in movies.
Why use it?
The first important thing is it stimulates the learner and engages them fully through interesting mixture of graphics and audiovisual content. They tend to learn more through this method especially visual learners. Many concepts can be taught using animations Eg: water cycle, photosynthesis, blood circulation. As the learning becomes interactive and engaging, the students tend to retain more information about the concept.
6. Graphics : They are the combination of text, image, sound/audio, animations, video, and etc.
They are usually easy to produce compared to animation as it simply utilize design elements such as text, logos, icons, shapes, and infographics, emphasizing the movement of these elements to explain or illustrate a concept.
Why use it?
The primary goal is to stimulate students learning and attention, as it will engage the students and aid in comprehension of text information. One of the primary reasons for using graphics in teaching and learning is the phenomenon known as the Picture Superiority Effect. This effect suggests that visuals are superior to words when it comes to memory recall and recognition.
Reflection
Informative tool as a whole is a source of information which can be of various types such as software, applications and platform which also comes different forms such as text, videos, images, audio, etc.
This tool should be the backbone of all the other learning tools as they are limited to their function and purpose without important information and resources. The tool itself is not tangible but how it can be interpreted, analyzed, evaluated and assessed as well as verification depends on the consumer/learner and it can be either done collaboratively or individually.
Create appropriate digital resources materials for primary classes
Atom model in Power Point Presentation
Purpose of this resource material that you have created
The purpose of this resource material is to teach the students about atom. It is a simple animation of how an atom would vibrate and it's electrons would revolve around the nucleus of the atom.
It should be able to give the students an idea on how atoms move and vibrate, the students can also be taught to make a simple animation such as the one above, which will show that they have understood the concept as well as learned the basic ICT skills to create one.
Utility of the resource material that you have created
Enhanced visual communication: Convey the idea and concept more clearly.
Sequential information delivery: It allows presentation of information in a sequential manner and the contents can be revealed step-by-step.
Emphasis and Focus: By applying animation effects to specific elements on a slide, presenters can emphasize key points or highlight important details. highlight the critical and fundamental aspects of a topic.
Engagement and Retention: The effects of animation capture the attention of the audience and keep them engaged where visual stimuli helps in recall and capturing information.
