Constructive Tool

Concepts of Constructive Tool

Generally, they are tools that are used to evaluate and construct knowledge or one's understanding as well as manipulating pre-existing information.

The purpose of these tools are mainly to construct or connect new information to their prior knowledge which becomes a learner centered instruction.

Q. Why and How do we integrate constructive tool into classroom learning?

Before a learner can move on to a new concept or level they need to be proficient and have clear understanding, where they should be able to connect and analyze topics and data. Integrating Constructive tools into our classroom learning enables the students to make connections and visualize the relationships between concepts. when the students have to manipulate and reconstruct their ideas and knowledge they become independent learners which allows them to be intrinsically motivated and think critically. Overtime they can easily construct and make connections between various concepts and ideas thoroughly.

It can be integrated in the classroom through various ways such as construction of simulation lesson using power point, desktop publisher program to organize and present the ideas in attractive formats that will allow students to focus effectively, we can also create simple webpage using google sites to share and present ideas for instance google slides.

Use of application software such as word document, excel, ppt, and mind maps are good examples of constructive tools.

1. C-Map or Concept map.

This constructive tool allows users to brainstorm and to visualize their understanding of relationships among a collection of concepts. The image below is a concept mapping of Digestion, it shows connection between attributes or vital body parts and the components which are the enzyme it releases with its action on the food substances.

2. Camtesia Studio (Video lesson)

This tool allows the users to create and design video tutorials and lessons that are engaging for students. These lessons are user friendly and can be accessed anytime after downloading the video. The learners can learn at their own pace through pausing and rewinding where the concept is not clear.

Reflection on Constructive Tool

Constructive tools will inevitably enhance learning and synergize teaching as students become intrinsically motivated to draw connection construct their own knowledge. it ensures that student have clearly understood the concept and are ready to move on to the next concept or make more connections. The use of constructive tool could enhance learner creativity and thinking skills of the students if implemented properly. Using Desktop publishing program, Camtesia studio, and spreadsheet to showcase or exhibit the learners product of using learning resources to the world through webpages and links or in blogs. Sharing their ideas to the world in which it becomes well aware to the society which might even be the stepping stones to a new knowledge or development. The students are not only learning themselves but also constructing materials that are relevant for teaching in classroom learning and all in all it's implementation enhance the interaction amongst peers and work to collaborate to build new knowledge. All of the fore mentioned are likely to happen if carried out properly and in the right way.
