SAMR Model of ICT Integration

 Lesson no: 1

Teacher Name: Tshering Yeshi

Topic: Flower

Subject: Science

Class: IV

Time: 45 Mins

Teaching Learning Materials: game from Science for kids, Google slides, Textbook, Worksheet.

ICT Model: SAMR model

Previous Knowledge: The Students have learned about the effects of water on growth of plants.

Lesson Objectives: At the end of the lesson each student should be able to;

  1. name at least five parts of flowers without looking at the textbook

  2. match the parts of flowers with their names accurately through game

  3. tell the importance of flowers in their own words.

Lesson Introduction (5 mins):

Start the lesson by asking a few students to briefly talk on what they have understood in the last class. The teacher will supplement and provide more information if they haven't understood. Introduce the lesson by asking what is the most beautiful part of a plant or tree, the expected answer is a “flower”. So, then move on with the main lesson.

Lesson Development (35 mins):

-Information Input: (5 mins)

The teacher needs to explain that a plant is made up of roots, stems, leaves and flowers. Therefore, a flower is the reproductive part of a plant. The male part of a flower is called stamen. The female part of a flower is called a carpel. Flower develops into fruit and seed. New plants grow from seed. They need to be made aware that flowers play a very important part in later on developing into a fruit that we eat and for the plant to ensure its life to pass on.

This information will be presented through google slide.

-Activity 1 (5 mins)

The students will individually play a small game on labelling the parts of flower and dissecting them by playing a game through Science for Kids: Life Cycle of a Plant - Flower Dissection.

The instructions will be already given when playing the game, but the teacher will still need to provide assistance and support whenever necessary. Each student will have to show their works to the teacher after completion.

-Activity 2 (10 mins)

In this activity, students in groups will be given a flower  with pots each in which they will have to study it. Instruct them not to pluck the flowers unnecessarily. The students will explore using the internet. They observe the flower carefully and draw a labelled diagram showing all the floral details such as Stamen, Petals, Carpel, Stigma, and Sepals.  Ask the groups to record their findings as per the format shown in the Worksheet given below.

The teacher can assist and provide support whenever required. The Teacher also needs to closely monitor the group activity.

Worksheet for Activity 2:

Name of the group: …………………………

Name of the flower:…………………………

-Follow up activities (5 mins)

After the initial activity the students will write the importance of flowers in the environment and how they impact our daily lives.

-Lesson Closure (5 mins):

The teacher will ask some students randomly to talk about the importance of flowers in their own words. Also randomly call out a member from each group to tell some basic parts of a flower.
